Education minister reveals data on out of school children

Despite many progress to implement RTE Act in Odisha, Odisha still have challenges in the area of bringing out of school children into schools. It is to be noted that lack of infrastructure, sluggish and careless running of sevashramas in Odisha has resulted in bad news for the education department in the recent past. Many of the sevashramas are running with the deficiency of basic amenities and students are sleeping in school verandah.Some schools are like this where classroom are also used as their hostels.

Legislative effort should be on

Right to Education Act came into force in Odisha from 1st April 2010. Like right to life, the Act got legal status under Article 21 (a) of the Indian Constitution.
Odisha has progressed in implementation in many ways like formation of SCPCR, notified state rules of RTE ,Guidelines for SMCs and an enrolment drive to government schools in the state.

The fellow met Mr. Nalineekanta Mohanty who is a parent of private school student Mr.S.N.Suraj Bhan. Mr. Mohanty also works as a teacher in a private school in Bhubaneswar. During our interaction he shared some of his views on private vs public school in the context of Right to Education Act.

The very debate of quality provided in private schools is not only because of the economically affluent parents ,this also begs attention to the teachers and their staffing pattern and salary.The government of Odisha always condoles on the result of the govt. schools.But here the teachers are paid badly in public schools which is 3 times lesser than the private schools.

Plenty of money is being spent under Sarva Siksha Abhiyan and School mass and education department of Orissa to ensure right to education of the children under 6 to 14 age but procedural hipccus has been checking post to get it done effectively.
